My fascination with scenes of a single colour begun when I came across Ben Nicholson’s various Reliefs. Seemingly subdued at first instance, they emphasise and play with much that we overlook. Elements such as shape, shade, hues, perspective and even depth.
I’ve been noticing more of these monotone moments particularly in shades of white. Perhaps it’s the clean blankness that attracts my eye. I want to enjoy it and not overthink it, too much.
